Thanks to the management of the Regional Corporation of Ecuadorian Bananas (AGROBAN) and Fundación Humana Pueblo a Pueblo Ecuador, greenhouses and family gardens are currently being implemented in the Provinces of Guayas and El Oro, as part of the Bananero Family Welfare Project.It seeks to improve the nutrition and family economy of banana workers and their families through surplus crops.
The FHPP technicians together with the beneficiary families of the project have planned to implement 200 family gardens of 10 m2, and 5 greenhouses of 400 m2 equipped with irrigation systems in the communities located in the area of influence of the banana farms La Nueva Pubenza, DanielaAntonella II, Las Maravillas Clemencia, Italia and Tendales.
Each family will be assigned a certain type of crop, diversifying production.Progress is being made in the preparation of beds and seedlings for the sowing of lettuce, onion, pepper, among other vegetables that are planned to be produced, with continuous monitoring during the productive period.
Additionally, it is complemented with technical assistance on issues of soil improvement and preparation, production of short-cycle vegetable seedbeds, pest control and organic fertilizers, sowing, harvesting, post-harvest techniques, and product sales.
The beneficiaries are divided into groups, each group forms a GAF (Family Action Group) with a Coordinator who serves as a direct connection with the Foundation’s technical team and supports the organization of activities.
In addition, together with the banana companies of Ecuador, it monitors the health of workers and their families, through nutrition programs, disease prevention campaigns, strengthening community organizational capacity, financial education, recycling and conservation workshops.of the environment.
